Q: I hate it when I go shoe shopping and they never have my size. But then shoe clerks try to get me to buy something in a different size. What’s up with this?
Cindy, Radnor, PA

A: Never buy shoes that don’t fit your feet. But don’t limit yourself to believing you can only wear one size, either. Sometimes the shoe is accidentally shaped so that runs large or small, narrow or wide. The shoe clerk will know this and bring you out a size that is most likely to fit. Women with less common sized feet may never have had an opportunity to try on enough correctly fitting shoes to even know their true size. Last week a woman in our store, DesignerShoes.com, came in looking for 11.5M shoes. It turned out that the 9WW shoes fit her the best.

There is a lot to consider in finding the right shoes. Fitting shoes means getting a given mass (your foot!) into a given size container (the shoe!). Your foot can be more or less flexible. Alice has softer, fleshy feet. Not fat, just genetics. Joyce’s feet are just bone and raw nerve endings. Alice can fit her foot comfortably into shoes ranging from 8WW (extra wide) to 10AA (narrow) depending on the shape of the shoe. Joyce is almost always a 9AAA (slim) and less than half of those fit her comfortably because of the specific shape of her foot.

If you do need those rare sizes, wides, shoes above size 10, narrows, etc. – shopping online is a good idea, once you have a good sense of your shoe size, or size range. Check out search engines like www.google.com. Search by key words like “wide shoes” or “shoes for tall women. For over 50 sizes and widths and 30 brand name designers, visit the online shoe store: www.DesignerShoes.com .

Q: What’s “IN” for shoe fashions this coming Fall?
Michelle, Sacramento, CA

A: Pointy toes are continuing their popularity run. Apologies to all those foot doctors who wish we would be smarter. But they are stylish still, just don’t stand in them for too long. Look for styles that make a statement – be bold. Wear them for occasions where you won’t be on your feet for long periods. Think dressy evening. Think mules that kick off easily.

Round toes are coming back strong. The classic “ballerina” in lots of colors will be big. Low heels, feminine “kitten heels”, make up for the foot pain from the high heel pointy toes that are a current wardrobe staple.

Top-stitching is everywhere. White or tan stitching around the vamp on a black kidskin pump or loafer is a good example. Contrast. Ornamentation. Suede is back and sumptuous. You’ll wear it in everything from black to apricot and all year except maybe to the beach in July. Just buy suede protection spray when you buy the shoes. Spray every month and brush with a soft toothbrush in between.

It is time to move beyond black (unless it has contrasting stitching or piping). Forget navy. Look for a deep forest green or olive green. Look for a soft burgundy. Camel will be huge in boots, as will a soft, muted brick tone red. We will see some steel blue, too. If you bought camel last season to wear with your warm tones, browns, etc., this season go for Dusty Pink.

Knee high boots will continue strong. The new calf high boots (about a 10” shaft) also look great with skirts and pants. Just wear the right stockings.

Our Philosophy

We're here to provide you with high-quality, stylish, and comfortable designer shoes in sizes that fit. We personally know what a horror story it is to find shoes ("we don't have your size, but we can sell you the box to wear!" one salesclerk smirked to us.). That's why we aim to make shoe shopping not only a reality, but a convenient and enjoyable experience.

Women, we believe, want shoes that look great and feel just as good. They want, in general, a selection, and the internet is a terrific way to show lots of pictures of shoes, provide descriptions and other relevant shoe care information, and offer the ultimate in customer service.
